GONZALES WASHINGTON (UP)—Western Europe's steady economic progress this year is expected to clear the way for a reduced American foreign aid program in 1954, administration officials said today. Officials voiced optimism over prospects for cutting future aid, barring a warlike move by Russia, increased Chinese Red intervention in Indo-China, or a renewal of the Korean War. The current American foreign aid appropriation totals approximately $6,600,000,000 for military, economic and technical aid programs for friendly foreign countries. Improved conditions in the free world, he said, are not matched by conditions behind the Iron Curtain. The situation was said to be prompting Russia to pay more attention to production of consumer goods at home and in the satellite nations.
