LEONARD PENNARIO—Brilliantly gifted virtuoso of the piano keyboard will play tonight at 8:15 on the first concert of the 1953-54 season of the Northern Orange County Community Concert series. Pennario has achieved the international reputation of a great artist not only in America but in Holland, Italy, France, and England with critics defining his concerts as "resounding successes, a pianist who plays with ease and understanding, his mastery of piano technique superb." Pennario, a native of Buffalo, N. Y., has lived in California most of his life. He began his piano study at the age of six and made his debut with the Dallas Symphony orchestra, performing Grieg's piano concerto, which he learned in six days. His first major triumph however was with the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra under Otto Klemperer and since that time he has been the soloist 24 time with this orchestra. He has also appeared with other leading orchestras in the county each time his artistry hailed with unprecedented applause. His six

Two Anaheim residents — Kenneth D. Tolman, of 11362 101 Highway and Larry V. Zabel of 745 Clementine, are students at Mexico City college, the only institution of higher learning in Latin America granting the American type B.A. and M.A. degree.
The Anaheim residents have the rare opportunity while in Mexico this fall of observing the revival of an ancient sacchificial ritual performed only once since the time of the Aztecs. Against a pyramid setting, dancers costumed as Indian gods, nobles, priests, and warriors act out ceremonial scenes of impressive grandeur. Music, dances, and songs are as authentic as serious study of thousand - year - old relicles can make them. The ceremony dates back to Teotihuacan, great capital of Indian times, which was already a sacred ruin in the days of the Toltec and Aztec who inherited its culture.
Besides seeing events such as this, students at Mexico City college come to understand Mexico as it is today — a great metropolis of industrial progress.
By the time they leave the country, they usually speak Spanish fairly well. A previous knowledge of the language is not essential, however as 95 per cent of the classes at the college are taught in English.
Tolman and Zabel both graduated from Anaheim Union High School in 1947 and attended Fullerton Jun'or college before coming to Mexico City college. Tolman served in the U.S. Army while Zabel served three years in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theatre.
The college, founded 13 years ago by Dr. Henry L. Cain and Dr. Paul V. Murray, its president, has as one of its purposes building up of international goodwill by giving the American students and the Mexican community a realization that friendliness between the bordering nations is a matter of reality rather than mere words.
