Anaheim Leads Sunset League In Touchdowns Each team in the Sunset league has played four practice games this season and Orange comes off with the best won and lost record of 2-1-1, scoring 31 points to opponents 21 points. The Panther offense has been unable to get up much steam in scoring only five TD's in four games, however, their defensive unit has stubbornly refused to yield ground in or near pay dirt, allowing but five touchdowns to all opponents. Anaheim ranks second in pre-season scoring statistics but was able to garner only two wins while losing two. The Colonists lead the league in total points scored with 62, against 46 points allowed and they are the only team to outscore all opponents. Huntington Beach, Anaheim's Friday night adversary has scored but two touchdowns while permitting opponents to cross their goal line 14 times. With this pre-league performance, the Oilers are at the bottom of the standings with no wins and four losses. (All games played to date are non-league.) Trojans Put to Severest Test In Berkeley Go LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 — The most severe test of the season awaits SC's Trojan footballers at Berkeley this Saturday when they invade the lair of the Golden Bear to meet a California team which will attempt to reaffirm its Rose Bowl bid and get revenge for the past two years. After a shaky start Lynn Waldorf's charges have shown almost unbelievable improvement and would like nothing better than to strike back for the 21-14 and 10-0 losses of '51 and '52. In the same sense this could be the "make or break" game for the Trojans. Jess Hill's team hasn't run into what would be considered stiff opposition and likewise hasn't concerned themselves with any foe—and almost lost everything at Seattle. The team has felt all along that this would be the gateway to the tough part of the season and have pointed for Cal. Whether the loose Trojan play will solidify remains to be seen. Hook, Line and Sinker Fishing in the Sacramento-Joaquin Delta, where one and half million striped bass and b-a-million salmon are caught each year, will not be greatly affected by large diversions of San Jose River water into the Pacific and Electric Company's huge Contra Costa Steam Plant run. This is the conclusion of Seed Engineer James E. Kerr of Bechtel Corporation, who has completed a 17-month study on the problem for P. G. & E. Kerr report has been published by California Department of Fish Game, which cooperated in project. A new fish collecting developed with fish handling mops developed in a year-long research program, is reasonable for the utility compa claim. The huge steam-powered erating plant merely "borrowed the river water to cool its densers, Kerr pointed out, very little goes up in steam, cause of this, one of the pany's main concerns was totect the very small fish while water was passing through plant. Roy Mabee Sets Record In Accuracy Tourney Roy Mabee, well-known Anaheim sportman, set a new unofficial record, Sunday, at the Long Beach Coating Club's bi-weekly tournament, carding a total score of 398 in the four accuracy events. Mabee recorded the following scores in his record-shattering performance: Dry fly 90; wet fly 90. % accuracy 90%; % accuracy 96. The official national record now stands at 301 and was set at the NAACO tournament at Peoria in 1962. UPHOLSTERING Hammond-Wade Co. 725 N. The appendix is that little tube at the lower end of the large intestine, like the finger of a glove. As far as we know, it serves no useful purpose. Appendicitis is caused from germs or some substance becoming lodged in the appendix, and setting up an infection. The first apparent symptom of appendicitis is a "stomach ache," and not necessarily in the right side. This "stomach ache" persists and progresses into the more acute symptoms with temperature and nausea. Taking purgatives is one of the MOST HARMFUL AND DANGEROUS things you can do. You might some time save a life by remembering this. When a "stomach ache" persists more than half an hour, go to bed. It is safe to take soda water, hot water or an enema, but if the pain persists, call your doctor and follow his advice implicitly and promptly. An operation for appendicitis by a competent surgeon, is comparatively simple when not delayed. A high percentage of appendicitis fatalities result from taking violent purgatives, or delaying operation until the appendix has burst and spread the poison into the abdominal cavity. Do not endanger the life of a loved one by DEBATING, when your Physician advises an operation for appendicitis. Jackson Drug Co. 100% Air-Conditioning Comfort 237 E. Center A bruised shoulder sustained by Lindon Crow proved to be nothing serious and the swift Corooran junior will be needed on defense to halt Larson's passing of which he is sure to do a lot. Dandoy has provided a good defender while Harold Han is catching on. This could well decide the outcome. Much time is being spent on the downfield blocking for it has been this phase that has hampered the tailbacks and wingbacks and has kept them long gainers. This is a must for both clubs and the one wanting to win the most will do so. It's that close. Collier of the State's yellowtail study, summed a ride on a recent Department of Fish and Game marine investigation cruise off the coast of Baja California. While crew members of the M. V. "Yellowfin" went about their routine hardline survey during the night, Collier hooked and tagged his yellowtail in daylight hours. As supercargo on a recent tuna research trip, Biologist Collier tagged another 74 yellowtail. Several southern California party boat operators and private boat owners also have volunteered their equipment and services to the Federal Aid yellowtail program. Operation Starmop "Operation Starmop" is over, and nearly 12 tons of starfish on the long outer breakwater of Los Angeles harbor has fallen to a victorious army of more than 250 skin divers. The five-hour campaign was inspired by the California Department of Fish and Game. Sportsmen from member clubs of the Council of Skin Divers volunteered their services. The rapidly multiplying starfish whose suction cup arms can pull open the most determined mollusk, were becoming a serious threat to the big barrier's shellfish population. Hook and line fishermen were feeling the squeeze too, as perch and kelp bass were visiting the breakwater less frequently with disappearance of mussels and other food. Among the thousands of starfish brought up by the geoggle and swim-fin clan on a recent Sunday were some measuring 30 inches. A ton of the five-pointers was sent to an experimental processor to see if fish meal could be made of the now valueless pest. In fact, he pointed out that the number of deaths in football far is "nothing unusual," except to indicate that "we're starting to climb on the fourth cycle." Eastwood said that he observed through his 22 years of keeping statistics that the number of football players "moved in a surprisingly constant cycle that occur every seven or eight years." Inman played four years at San Jose State, scoring 343 points in three years of varsity ball, collecting 23 in one game, both standing as all-time records at his school. Apointment of Inman is related to Santa Ana's expansion of sports facilities at the college, featuring construction to start soon on a new Don gymnasium with permanent seating for 2400 people. The new gym combines the best features of several such facilities and will equal any in the Southland. Dr. Floyd R. Eastwood took issue with the officials while gathering figures for his 22nd annual grid death survey, which he will present to the Football Coaches Association in Cincinnati in January. "It seems to me the officials are not quick enough on the whistle this year." Eastwood said. "This allows more pilling on and naturally makes more injuries and fatalities possible." Eastwood, however, did not blame the officials for the nine football deaths already reported throughout the nation this year. In fact, he pointed out that the number of deaths in football far is "nothing unusual," except to indicate that "we're starting to climb on the fourth cycle." Eastwood said that he observed through his 22 years of keeping statistics that the number of deaths of football players "mover in a surprisingly constant cycle that occur every seven or eight years." The death total for this year is almost certain to exceed last year's 10, he said, but will fall below the 22-year average of 1 and the high mark of 31. The peak was reached in 1931, the low in 1945. Eastwood considers the presen one-platoon football much safe for player than the platoon system used last year.
