The day will be observed at Wesley Methodist church under the leadership of the Charge Lay Leader, Cliff Elliott, with John Albright, Pat Brooks, Neal Boothhe, Mary Lou Loessin, Sara Green, Leota Nipp, and Margaret Elliott answering such question as "Why Christ Calls Men," "How Christ Calls Men," "and What Happens When Christ's Call Is Answered." Frank Nipper will offer the prayer and the pastor will sit among the congregation and learn some valuable information from his laymen. The choir, under the direction of Margaret Elliott, will sing Lorenz's anthem, "Lord, I Want To Be a Christian," with Pat Brooks and John Albright taking special parts. Atonement Doctrine Is C. S. Subject Man's unity with God, demonstrated by Christ Jesus and his followers in overcoming sin and disease, will be pointed out in the Sunday lesson-sermon on "Doctrine of Atonement" in all Christian Science churches. Isaiah declares in the golden text "The Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob saith the Lord." Paul writes in his second letter to the Corinthians "All things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconcilation; . . . Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God." Mary Baker Eddy says in Marine Guest At Cypress Naive Church Sunday Master Sgt. Paul Toro Marine Base has led as director of many activities of the Cypress Nazarene accord William D. Howard, church. Sgt. Parry has been rines for the past 15 served overseas in K duty in the Pacific aftering World II. He is a fine tenor voice. These three nations sent a total of 8,619 students to study in America. Other nations that sent more than one thousand students were India, Japan, Colombia, Mexico and the Philippines. According to the "Committee on Friendly Relations Among Foreign Students" New York and California led in the number of foreign students enrolled in colleges and universities on a state-by-state basis, followed by Illinois, Pennsylvania and Washington state. New York was host to 6,146 students from other lands; California, 4,442; Illinois, 1,700; Pennsylvania, 1,337; and Washington state 1,072. Young people travelled from remote parts of the world to study in America. They came from Afghanistan, Australia, Ceylon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Inner Mongolia, Tahiti, Tibet and the Tonga Islands. Out of the total group, nearly 200 were classified as "stateless." Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God." Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "The atonement of Christ reconciles man to God, not God to man; for the divine principle of Christ is God, and how can God propitiate Himself? . . Jesus aided in reconciling man to God by giving man a truer sense of Love, the divine principle of Jesus' teachings, and this truer sense of love redeems man from the law of matter, sin, and death by the law of spirit—the law of divine Love". Pastors, Psychiatrists Should Tolerate One Another, Says Galdston It is not only desirable but necessary for the psychiatrist and the church pastor to cooperate, an eminent psychiatrist told a ministers' conference this week. "While the last quarter of a century has witnessed the exercise of sweet benevolence on the part of the ministry towards psychiatry—and increasing tolerance to the ministry by psychiatry—when the situation is examined critically it is nothing more than liberal tolerance of each by the other," observed Dr. Iago Galdston. The New York psychiatrist and secretary of the New York Academy of Medicine's Bureau of Medical Information addressed the Greater Hartford (Conn.) Ministers' Fellowship. Pointing out that psychiatrists and pastors seldom come in contact, Dr. Galdston remarked that when they do meet "it is because they are concerned with one individual in trouble." He declared that ministers can contribute constructively to the field of psychiatry by teaching persons who are not emotionally disturbed "the ways of sound mental and emotional health." In the vast majority of cases, at the root of the psychiatric difficulties involving the individual is some defect in that individual's relation to the realities and values of life. Dr. Galdston said: "These elements and meanings, in life are central to the functions of the minister." RIDGWAY SPEAKS "However well-equipped with the arms that science can now devise and a loyal production line can supply, no army can long succeed in our day without the bulwark of spiritual values," says Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway, "even as no nation can long endure without a moral code, spiritual fibre, and the wisdom and integrity derived from faith in a righteous God." Ex-Bookie Scheduled to Speak on 'The And the Gang' at White Temple Sunday Night An ex-"bookie" who became a preacher and is using ledge of the underworld to win scores of youthful gangsters and fuller life—this is the story of dynamic "Andy" Gill of the Emmanuel Methodist church in the columns of eastside. He will speak Sunday night at White Temple church. Griffin grew up in Kansas City, and became associated with the notorious political machine that shielded racketeers from justice. Moving to California, he entered the racing racket, and became thoroughly familiar with both the jargon and the methods of the underworld. Then came the transforming experience of his personal conversion and dedication to the Christian ministry, states the Rev. Frank Butterworth, church pastor. Today he serves a church in the center of the hoodium gang-district and the narcotic rings. Part of national Churchmen's Week, the special Sunday service is designed to emphasize the close relationship between laymen and pastor and the loyalty of laymen to their home churches. Opening with Men and Missions Day on Oct. 11 to enlist laymen in the support of missionary programs of their churches, Churchmen's Week saw laymen's rallies throughout the U.S. in the mid-week period. between the two special Sunday observances. During the rallies, laymen of the community called for action in applying Christian principles to daily work, community welfare, education, government and leadership for young people. Dr. Urner Goodman, director of the National Council of Churches' department of united church men, which is sponsoring Churchmen's Week, declared in connection with the observance: "There are 800 million Christians in the world. If every Christian churchman were true to his mission, we could transform this world in one generation."
