The golden text from Psalms reads, "God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; that they way may be known upon earth, thy health among all nations." In a Lesson — Sermon citation on the Psalmist says, "Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; for unto the will I pary... For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee" "There is neither a present nor an eternal copairthorship between error and Truth, between flesh and Spirit," writes Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She continues, "God is as incapable of producing sin, sickness, and sickness, and death as He is of experiencing these errors. Sch Whittier Pastor Temple Speaker "Confessions of a Preacher", a unique symposium by three popular Orange County ministers, will be presented at the 7 o'clock Sunday evening service at White Temple Methodist church of Anaheim. Rev. Alec Nichols of the First Methodist church of Santa Ana, Rev. Ray Wirth of the East Whittier Methodist church, and Rev. "Bob" Washer of the Garden Grove Methodist church will participate in the novel presentation. "Too many people think that preachers are not like other human beings," states the pastor, Rev. Frank E. Butterworth. "Our purpose in this program is to demonstrate that most ministers were not originally interested in religion at all, but that they gradually felt called to church work by the transferring power of Christian faith in the world around them. We want to humanize the preacher, to explain the diverse nature of Christian experience, and to offer the powerful testimony of personal experiences in this stimulating way." Each of the three preachers will take ten minutes to tell the story of his own vocational choice and to outline his religious biography. At both the 9 and 11 o'clock morning worship services, Rev. Frank Butterworth will begin a new series of sermons on "The Six Greatest Stumbling-blocks to Christian Fairhall," speaking this week on the question, "Why Does God Let This Happen?" The Revised Standard Version of the Bible has broken all sales records in the book publishing business since its historic publication one year ago, and still remains on the nation's bestseller book lists after 48 consecutive weeks. By selling close to 2,500,000 copies during the past 12 months, the Revised Bible has achieved a record sales figure for all time unequaled by any other book in U.S. publishing history—fiction or non-fiction. Commemorating the first anniversary of the authorized Protestant version of the Bible, William R. McCulley, president of Thomas Nelson and Sons, pointed out that if the two-and-a-half million Revised Bibles sold were placed side by side they would fill a book shelf 60 miles long, Thomas Nelson and Sons published the book which was prepared under auspices of the National Council of Churches' Division of Christian Education. McCulley noted also that the initial print order last year for 1,100,000 copies was the largest ever placed for a full-size hardcover book by a commercial publishing house. He said these copies were sold quickly in advance of actual publication — another unprecedented first edition sales record not even remotely approached by any single book in American publishing history. Actual Operation Background for Book, 'Faith Builds a Chapel' When Winifred C. Boynton decided that what she wanted more than anything else in the world was to build a beautiful and dignified little chapel on the grounds of her home in Door County, WI., she faced with two serious obstacles. First, her family was ice-cold on the project; second, she had no idea how to go about it. Women like Mrs. Boynton have no trouble winning over their families—particularly to worthwhile causes. But even those with a much innate talent as she has might find themselves qualifying before the prospect of designing and building and painting and decorating and wood-carving as intricate a piece of architecture as the Norwegian Chapel she finally decided to complete. And even when the chapel was finished, Mrs. Boynton's difficulties weren't over. Reinhold, who just published her book, "Faith Builds a Chapel," asked her to do pencil illustrations for the book and she had to read a book on pencil drawing in order to comply with their request. Paul, Peter Panels Here is Mrs. Boynton's description of the creation of the painting of Peter and Paul: "I was eager to paint the panels of Peter and Paul. It was important to have these two Apostles on the two side panels — between the Nave and the Chancel. Together they build the church of Christ — Peter with the tools of his heart, and Paul with the tools of his great intellect. The existence of our little Chapel is due to this very fact that they builted well. ...In our design Peter is shown holding two keys. Jesus said to Peter, 'I will give the keys to the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.' From this it would seem that the keys are the symbolic implements of Truth and Faith which unite those keen, sharp eyes, I know there is as great a heart to understand simple human frailty as there is to grasp the loftiest concepts of life. All this and more I feel when I talk with him. There may be other Peters and other Pauls but the two I know and love are living in our Chapel." President Eisenhower Speaks at UCW Meet. A special committee of U.S. church women met President Eisenhower at the Atlantic City airport Oct. 6 when the President arrived there to address the sixth National Assembly of United Church Women. The committee, headed by Mrs. Wyker, president of United Church Women was accompanied by invited guests including the governor of New Jersey and the mayor of Atlantic City. Mrs. Wyker rode in the President's car from the airport to Convention Hall, accompanied by a motorcade of the other church women and civic officials. The president spoke on "Of National Importance" to the convention. United Church Women is a department of the National Council of Churches...Dr. J. Quinter Miller, an official of the National Council of Churches, is one of a group of nine American religious leaders leaving for Germany Oct. 12 for a four-week study trip.
