Huntington Beach Shows Decrease in County Payments
HUNTINGTON BEACH—Of all the cities in Orange County, only Huntington Beach decreased its payments to the county in 1952 as compared to the 1951 obligations, a study showed today.
Huntington Beach taxpayers divided up $105,000 less last year than they did the year before, chiefly because of the downward valuation of oil output which slacked off.
Fullerton showed the largest increase in payments by its taxpayers, chiefly by reason of its burgeoning growth and higher assessed valuations. Its taxpayers contributed $1,051,756 to the county seat government, or $287,706 more than the year before.
Santa Anans added $82,000 to their payments to the county, to contribute $2,282,692; Newport Beach taxpayers paid $43,000 additional to a high of $1,098,359; Laguna Beach's tax bill was $348,803, or $42,000 more; and Anaheim's was the lowest increase, or $17,500, to a total of $983,739.
There were no figures available on tax payments by taxpayers of the smaller cities.

SOMETHING TO SEE—And something at the sea, too, is this study in relaxation as shapely Esther Claire suns herself on the sands of Miami Beach, Fla., between dips in the surf. Esther's striped bathing suit makes a colorful contrast in the sun-warmed sand. Her hat doesn't appear to be large enough to shade much of Esther, but if it suits her, that's all right with us.
Fire Chief Warns Of Home Hazards
"More people are killed by fire in their own homes than in all other types of occupancies combined," Fire Chief Ed Stringer said today.
The Chief made this statement in connection with Fire Prevention Week currently being observed by proclamation of President Elsenhower. The campaign is sponsored locally by the Fire Department, and nationally by the National Fire Protection Association.
Declaring that "the U.S. dollar loss from fire in 1933 promises to exceed the record high of $869,000-000 in 1952," the chief said, "this means we are burning our property at a rate of about $2,500,000 a day."
The dollar loss is tremendous, but the toll of dead and injured is even worse. Before the year is over, fire will have killed over 12,000 Americans and burned or disfigured more than twice that number.
"Shocking as these figures may be, we fall to see the real tragedy until we appreciate the fact that the great majority of these fires...if not all of them...can be prevented." We in the Fire Department are anxious to help you make your home and place of business safe from fire. We and you can cut these losses drastically almost overnight if we will. The purpose of Fire Prevention Week is to show the way and it's up to the individual to follow through!
Chief Stringer specified six principal hazards that he says account for most fires:
1. Careless smoking and handling of matches—make sure cigarettes and matches are out before throwing them away—and never smoke in bed!
2. Misuse of electricity, faulty wiring—follow operating directions for appliances and know the "safe load" limits of your electric circuits.
3. Defective and overheated equipment, inspect and clean periodically, always keep these items.
Letter Shop Here Offers Various Business Services
A new type of business has opened in Anaheim this week. The Lemon Letter Shop, 433 West Center St., is offering to Anaheim business concerns and to the citizens a complete letter shop service.
The new concern offers a complete mailing service, stenographic work, composition and expert mimeographing.
The mailing services includes typing envelopes, folding, stuffing, stamping, mailing and lists made to order. There is a public stenographer in the shop who offers typing, shorthand, and transcribing from dictating equipment.
The composition department offers both mimeographing and offset printing, advertising artwork and layout, a rewrite service of your material, development of ideas and brochures.
Expert mimeographing is a specialty at the Lemon Letter Shop. By using clever ideas and utilizing both solid colors and multi-colors, your mimeographing work will have a distinctive personalized touch.
The new office is equipped to handle most any mimeographing job you might have whether it be forms, letters, specifications, brochures, bulletins, sales manuals, sales catalogs, legal documents or cartoons and drawings.
All of the equipment in the office is electric for efficiency and speed of operation which includes typewriters, both executive and elite, electric folding machine and collator (gathering machine).
There is also desk space available in the new attractive office offering telephone answering service.
Miss Angeles Lemon is the owner and manager of the letter shop. She has an office in Santa Ana where she originally started in business at the first of the year. Business was so successful that a branch office was needed and she selected Anaheim as the site for her new office.
When asked about the mimeographing service she said, "We can do things with a stencil and a drawing board and a typewriter that you never thought possible. Illustrated, or straight typed copy in either case it will be clean-cut and easy to read."
So, for any office work you might require or any particular work to be done, stop in at the Lemon Letter Shop at 433 West Center St., or call Anaheim 6826.
Home-Hunters Swarm To Anaheim Village
In spite of Anaheim's hot October week-end in many home-hunters still gave Anaheim a good reception last year as hundreds of viewers took first peek at the "family" homes at 605 North East Street.
The "family"-lized features as open beamed ceilings, the ability of four bedrooms, walls of glass, large kitchens, natural cabinets, pullman hoods colored fixtures and roomy patios all met with favorite comment at the preview, the bursars declared.
The preview will continue as five model homes this week and day Sunday, the Anaheim Ville officials assured. Built by Griff Brothers and Paul L Pierce, homes are priced from $11,200-$7,500 and can be purchased for little as $550 down, according to sales office.

4. Careless handling of kerosene, gasoline and other flamable liquids—use only approved metal containers if flamable liquids must be stored in the house and dry cleaning with gasoline and the like is not only old-fashioned, it's deathly.
5. Bad housekeeping habits—clear attics, closets, basements of papers, rags, old furniture because rubbish is fuel that fire loves.
6. Children and matches—the smart parent keeps matches and lighters out of the reach of curious youngsters and teaches older children how to use fire making tools safely.

Cattlemen Vote for Price Support Plan
MATADOR, Tex. (UP)—sounding vote for price support and a cattle buying program cast by more than 600 cattle meeting in the Motley Courthouse.
The stockmen and several others, representing 13 counties in Southeastern Panhandle, apply the same program that was dorsed Monday night by cattle and farmers at an Amarillo ing.
This area has been one of hardest hit by drought and falling cattle market, and was standing room only at night's meeting.
S. E. (Eck) Brown, president of the United Livestock Production Association, described prices ports as the only remedy for selling industry, and attacked he called "political bungling the drought relief program."
