Trys to Take Life
LOS ANGELES (UP)—Former bantamweight boxer Keeny Teran, 22, who became a drug addict and hen cured himself for a ring comeback, was in serious condition today as a result of what sheriff's deputies termed a possible suicide attempt.
Officers said the ex-fighter who announced his retirement from the ring a year ago, swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills at his home last night. He was taken to General Hospital and his stomach pumped out.
Teran was a sensation in local boxing circles three years ago, winning numerous professional fights. Drug addiction admittedly caused his downfall and after losing fights he took a cure.

IC Conference Play to Start This Week-End
LOS ANGELES (UP)—The 1953 race for league championships opens this week as most Southern California junior college and small college football team begin conference play.
Looming as favorites in the four Jaysee circuits were Pasadena in the Western State Conference, Bakersfield in the Metropolitan, Orange Coast in the Eastern, and Antelope Valley in the South Central.
Top game of the week will be in the Metropolitan conference between Bakersfield and El Camino, both undefeated and blinding for the circuit's top spot. Bakersfield rates the edge.
Pasadena over Fullerton
Pasadena's Bulldogs, which last week routed East WLos Angeles 52 to 0, will travel to Fullerton for a nonconference tilt.
Another top game is the Orange Coast-San Bernardino contest. All though undefeated Orange Coast figures as the probable winner, San Bernardino cannot be ruled out. San Bernardino was tied in one practice fray and won another over Harbor last week by an impressive 38 to 12 score.
Other conference games include Harbor at East Los Angeles and Long Beach at San Diego in the Metropolitan loop; Mt. San Antonio at Santa Ana, and Riverside at Chaffey in the Eastern conference; and Antelope Valley at Imperial Valley and Oceanside, at Palo Verde in the South Central conference.
Redlands Favored
Nonconference clashes are between Glendale at Valley, Muir at Citrus, Stockton at Compton, Vanurn at Taft and Santa Monica at Sacramento.
Two small college powerhouses, Redlands in the SCIAC conference and Cal Poly of San Luis Obispo in he CCAA circuit, go against underdogs.
Redlands, which rolled up 61 points against two pre-conference opponents, is favored over La. Verne by three touchdowns in a nonconference game.
Cal Poly Picked
Cal Poly of San Luis Obispo will face Santa Barbara, figuring as the heavy favorite on the basis of early season tilts.
In other conference games Pomona-Claremont meets Cal Tech and Whittier face Occidental in the SCIAC and Los Angeles State confronts Fresno State and Peperdine hosts San Diego State in the CCAA.
Cal Poly of San Dimas clashes with Chino in a non-conference duel.
