Ball Road Annex Dispute Recessed SANTA ANA—Dispute over city of Anaheim's Ball Road No.1 annexation was in recess today until Oct. 29. Superior Judge Franklin G. West heard bitter legal arguments all yesterday afternoon as some residents of the area south and west of Anaheim challenged the special election of Aug. 7 which was decided by a count of absentee ballots. Count of the election ballots showed 61 had favored and 50 had opposed the annexation, but the absentee ballot count changed the final outcome to 52 in favor and 51 opposed. The objectors insisted that the city should have not issued the absentee ballots and should not have counted them. City Clerk Charles E. Griffith of Anaheim was on the stand during much of the hearing yesterday afternoon. He submitted records of the election and said that 16 absentee ballots had been issued and 12 had been returned. Of these two were declared invalid and on the count of the remaining ten there were nine in favor of the annexation and only one opposed. Anaheim is under a temporary restraining order prohibiting it from certifying the result of the election until the dispute is settled in court. The Health Office reported that one man's name was stricken from the polio list. George A. Keim, 30, of 733 Tulare St., Buena Park was admitted Sept. 9 for treatment of polio but his aliment was found to be encephalomyitis. Cruise with Death F. DRACOT CHAPTER SEVEN DARIUS UPDATEHAD been in love with power, with the enthusiasm of morning coffee. made him great fun to talk to and Brown, though rather wooden and pompous, betrayed an anxiety to please which made him appealing. I could just imagine Robert thinking his head at me, but I found it easier to think that the shot had been fired by some unknown enemy in the crew. The steward and stewardess were still with us. Mrs. Macbeth apparently under orders, sat by the door like a warrior in a women's pride, her feet apart, her hands resting on her knees. Her manner said all too clearly that she considered herself guard. If anyone had an impulse to conversation, The captain came back and announced with no hesitation that would begin. This reason gave the surprise making Gay Walton time bomb. The servant had been battling was for her. Not! Not! I can't be I won't be searched! I strangers pole among Larry, you must stop the do something! Robert. Her hands contorted her way toward being safely. It was from Robe in the court. CHAPTER SEVEN DARIUS UPDYKE had been in love with power, with the exhibition of moving others according to his will, sometimes by orders, and sometimes, by more noble and more dreadful means. He had surrounded himself with all the luxury he could dream of cherished his flesh beyond the normal—and failed to protect it against the ultimate indiscretion. In spite of all he could do, his infatuation had ended, his power had weakened—but there I brought myself up short. We were all still in this power. We were all still controlled by the conditions of that monstrous will. Through it he could still make us dance. He could even keep us from getting home to my small Boys. I determined then and there to do anything and everything I could think of to find out who had fired that shot. I looked around the room and realized that I did not want to suspect any of my fellow passengers. Mr. Opdyke hated at dark secrets in the lives of each and all of them, and I brank from discovering what they were Liam Tranahan I admired. That stiff manner of hers was just her way of protecting herself against the many people who tried to make use of her. Once you got past it she was informal almost jolly. She had certainly been kindhearted to the unknown American who had married her godson. Believing evil of Gay Walton was like persecuting a child. She had a defenseless quality, and all her emotions chased each other so openly across her sensitive face that it was impossible to support her or concealment. Carolota was more difficult to understand, but she was very beautiful, and pleasant enough. Larry seemed like anybody's best brother, as friendly as a wet Newfoundland pop. Randolph had a brilliant and amusing mind which "I could just imagine Robert talking his head at me, but I found it easier to think that the shot had been fired by some unknown enemy in the crew. The steward and stewardess were still with us, Mrs. Macbeth apparently under orders, sat by the door. A waitress in a women's prison, her feet apart, her hands resting on her knees. Her manner said all too clearly that she considered herself on guard. If anyone had an impulse to conversation, her presence was enough to check it. Todd, her brother, had retired behind the big sofa in the far end of the room, and seemed to be trying to make himself invisible—a teaching, instructive manner of his which we came to know better. Robert was sitting on a small sofa under the window, with his eyes fixed on a corner of the ceiling which he appeared to find fascinating. I sat down by him and慑然 stock my hand into his pocket. "The get something to tell you later on," I said out of the corner of my mouth. "Keep your nose out of it this time," be answered. Then I think he fell I was hurt, because he added, "I want you to do something for me. Write down every day what you see, and what people say. It may be very important." I couldn't see why he should want me to do that, but I carried out his wishes, and it is from those notes that I am able to put this narrative together with some degree of accuracy. Robert pulled his eyes down from the corner of the ceiling. "Td like to ask one question," he said to the room in general. "Did anyone except the captain see Opdyke fall over the rail?" Todd spoke up unexpectedly from his rampart behind the sofa. "I saw him. It was horrible. I had been writing for him in his cabin as usual, and I am free to say I may have done a bit. I heard a shot and looked out of the porthole, and so I saw him fall. It was exactly as I had told Mergle it would be the night before. If I may say so, I had a dream about it. Didn't I, Meg?" "You talk too much, Tamara." Mrs Macbeth said impassively, and her brother collapsed. "Not! Not! I can't be sure I won't search for strangers poke among Larry, you must stop doing something." Robert. Her hands contorted her way toward being quietly. It was from Babes as the Wife the little girl has found the robes are going to Robert gave me the which meant "get me out of Dr. Randolph anyway" told both her hands he and murmured to laugh until the quieted. "There has to be a name. But it is not well find much—with all ending place." Carolotta watched Grace with a contempt there was a tinge of pain but the rest of us treasured. We were distracted, barred, and for ourselves it was increasingly clear that were at the merry of the Captain. The dead man for us out of the sea, was his unpredictable nature. Frederick Brown must effort to impose his idea "You are exceedingly young," be told the Captain. If there's a law that isn't got the ship, I can't seen it. "We can rose to reef from your position and second officer in charge. Opdyke's putative heir in the person of Mr. H in think we could be up doing." Jonas answered him drawn. "You can try it. Must a notion it won't work." "Why not?" Larry began aggressively. "Because the second my son that's why." He minima so severe that which followed, then his heel and gave a cry over his shoulder. "Come let's get cracking." (To Be Continued) Warren Began Try For Court Seat at '52 Convention By LYLE C. WILSON WASHINGTON (UP)—Governor Warren began his sure prey toward the Supreme Court the sweaty sessions of the 1962 public National Convention. It is one of the better ties of inside politics. The chance death of by M. Wilson opened the chief jungle to Warren and that could prove been frozen. But from the moment president Eisenhower's first ballroom in Chicago on July 1962, the word from the Republican command was this: Can Have Anything "Warren can have anything he wants." He wanted to be an associate justice of the Supreme Co. With four Republicans years go, his chances were excellent. The mighty deeds he made Warren eligible for threaten office a President can be wore done in 1962 during the jury dispute over seating contested Republican National Convention delegates from Southern set. The crucial vote was contested delegates from Georgia. Taft-controlled majorities of Republican National Committee had found in favor Georgia delegates pledged to nomination of the late senator. California's Joe All but eight of Gloria's 30 delegates joined the billon on the convention floor with rejected the committee report and seated delegates of Eisenhower clan. Say Men Forced Woman Into Prostitution SANTA ANA — Three men are being held today on charges of forcing a young woman from Orange into prostitution and they may face additional charges of rape. Sheriff's officers said. In custody are Alfredo (Freddie) Bertado, 25; Manuel Extraida Barron, 21; and Gandalfa Callera Calverra, 24, all of El Modena. Authorities said that the young woman, who is a barmalde, was taken by force Monday night and attacked by two of the three men, then taken to Mexican national camps at El Modena and Tustin Hills and forced into relations with several of the men there. Death The captain came back just then, and announced with no formality and scant courtesy that the search would begin. This reasonable suggestion had the surprising effect of making Gay Walmart explode like a time bomb. The nervousness she had been battling was too much for her. "No! Not I can't be searched!
