Colonist Band Launches Season
Seventy members and ten majorettes and flag twirlers compose the first unit of the Anaheim High Colonist band with Gary Bonner as band captain and Shirley Klamm, head majorette.
There is a 40-girl drill team, a marching and dancing group, that will add to the color and interest of the Colonist events this year. This group is directed by Helen Gruenfeldter.
The band will participate in the half-time show for four of the football games this season and have been invited to take part in many of the prominent southland events.
The widely publicized White Gold Day parade at Cypress, Oct. 7 is one of the neighboring activities which will possibly be scheduled by the Colonist band.
One of the outstanding dates annually is the High School Band Day at the Coliseum when bands from secondary schools take part in the half-time show of one of the southlands top football games. This year the date is Oct. 24 when UCLA and Washington State play. Top billing for the band locally is Anaheim's annual Hallowe'en parade when the AUH5T Colonist marching band will be one of the 17 units in the parade on Oct. 31.
