Taxpayers Waste Own Money, Murdy Tells CCA Group. "The taxpayers of California are the most wasteful people of their own tax money," was the statement made Thursday by Senator John A. Murdy, of Huntington Beach, speaking before the Los Angeles County Coordinating Council of the California Chiropractic Association, meeting at the Victor Hugo Restaurant in Long Beach. "People are more wasteful than the legislators, they vote for things the legislators veto." Pointing to this year's record budget for California, Senator Murdy stated that 65% of it had been frozen into law by the voters, but that the legislators still were able to balance the State's largest budget without any increase in taxes. "We're buying more government than we can pay for," the speaker said. He stated that one out of every families in California derives its income from either State or Federal payrolls, with 260,000 families supported by U.S. payroll and 61,000 families getting the paychecks from the State. "No great power can stay great with an excessive tax load." Senator Murdy warned, "and it is just a matter of time as to how long we can continue to pay today's great tax burden. I have both amazed and confused at the thousands of bureaus, boards and commissions in our State government."
