Sunday Lesson Salvation is not to be found in reliance on materiality but through spiritual understanding of God, good declares the Sunday Lesson-Sermon on "Matter" in all Christian Science churches. The golden text is from Hosea "I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen." In the Lesson-Sermon this famous statement from Zechariah appears "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." This follows the account of the instantaneous healing by Christ Jesus of the impotent man at the pool of Bethesda. "Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk. And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked." In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy writes, "God is more to a man than his belief, and the less we acknowledge matter or its laws, the more immortality we possess. Consciousness constructs a better body when faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form you anew." United States Clergy at Bottom of Ladder Financially, National Church Council Says The present financial plight of U.S. clergymen, whose years of study and preparation for the ministry has brought them a worsening budget struggle during the past decade of skyrocketing prices, is highlighted in a report just released by the National Council of Churches. In terms of purchasing power, the report points out, clergymen have not been able to keep up with the rising cost of living and financially were nearly 13 per cent worse off in 1951 than in 1939. In contrast, industrial employees and workers in service trades, whose vocations does not necessarily entail extensive scholastic preparation, have fared well in fighting the drop in dollar power. painfully obvious when his earnings are compared with others," noted Dr. Benson Y. Dr. Landis surveyed incomes of clergymen in three denominations whose figures were complete and comparable: Congregational Christian, United Presbyterian and Protestant Episcopal. He then translated 1951 incomes into 1939 dollars to determine their purchasing power in terms of consumer goods, and compared these with earnings of has brought them a worsening budget struggle during the past decade of skyrocketing prices, is highlighted in a report just released by the National Council of Churches. Twenty-seven million American children and youths are getting little or no church school training. Existing Sunday church schools are in many cases overcrowded and handicapped by a lack of qualified teachers. With these facts in mind, churches throughout the nation are ready strong Sunday school drives to be launched during Christian Education Week, Sept. 27-Oct. 4. Theme of the observance will be "For All Children, Faith in God." Sponsored by the National Council of Churches with 40 denominations cooperating, the special week will focus attention on the need for 100 per cent enrollment in Sunday schools and more trained teachers to handle the classes. In thousands of communities churches and lay groups are preparing Rally Day programs with special services and mass meetings to highlight Christian Education Week. Some denominations have been home visits campaigns on a national scale to swell Sunday church school attendance. Many churches are holding school leadership meetings, prior to the week, to map out ways to handle expected heavy enrollments in the fall. A new motion Rev. John C.
