KIWANIS CLUB GIVES First Chest Check First member of the Century Club of Anaheim Community Chest this year is the local Kiwanis Club, which jumped the gun on the drive yesterday in order to win the first spot on the honor roll. E. W. "Bill" Wylie, club president, gave the check for $100 to Arthur H. SHIPKEY, co-chairman of the fund drive. The entire meeting was devoted to Red. Feather work, with the Rev. A. J. Casebeer acting as program-chairman. Leo Irwin, club Boy Scout representative, showed a Community Chest film telling of the work of scouting in Orange County. Ray Link told of the coming fund drive campaign and signed up volunteers to work on the downtown canvass, beginning Sept. 15. Veterans in State Set At 2,015,000 SACRAMENTO (UP) — The Department of Veterans Affairs yesterday estimated the number of veterans in California at 2,015,000. A Veterans Administration estimate placed the veteran population at 1,603,000. The department said it based its estimate on contentions that 1,750,000 veterans lived in California in 1849, 150,000 World War II veterans had settled here since then and 115,000 had returned or immigrated to California since the outbreak of the Korean War.
