Pacific Palisades to Draw 500 Presbyterian Denominational Leaders From Three Counties.
The Presbyteran conference grounds at Pacific Palisades will be the rallying point next week when close to 500 denominational leaders, both ministers and laymen, assemble Sep. 8 and 9 for the semi-annual two-day meeting of the Presbytery of Los Angeles, with Moderator Kenneth B. Carson, pastor of Graham Memorial Presbyterian church, Colorado, convening the first session at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Ruling Elder Nelson Ross, conference grounds manager, will be official host to the delegates coming from Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties to represent the 156 Presbyterian churches of the area in the final meeting of the 1953 summer session of presbytery. First meeting of the 1953-54 winter session is scheduled for Nov. 10 in First Presbyterian church of San Diego.
Expect 600 Guests
Moderator Carson will call the Wednesday meeting to order at 9 a.m., with the session scheduled to last all day. A large number of the delegates, especially those coming from the more remote sections of the presbytery, will be housed Tuesday night in cabanas on the conference grounds, which can accommodate more than 600 overnight guests.
One of the highlights of the meeting will be an address on Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 by Dr. Nathaniel Bercovitz, former Presbyterian missionary to China, who returned to this country last May, after more than two years as a prisoner of the Communists. This will be Dr. Bercovitz's first address to the presbytery since his return. He will be heard during the report of presbytery's committee on Foreign missions, which will be presented by the Rev. Frederic G. Appleton, chairman, pastor of St. James Presbyterian church, San Gabriel.
Pastoral Calls Planned
Dr. Lawrence E. Fisher, chairman of presbytery's Committee on Ministerial Relations, reports Tuesday, the entire evening will be presented to candidates for vacant position of the office.
Schweitzer Buys Auto Electric Firm in Anaheim
Effective Sept. 1, R. H. "Dick" Schweitzer of 428 E. Walnut, Costa Mesa is purchasing Neuman's Auto Electric at 904 No. Los Angeles St., Anaheim.
New name of the firm will be Anaheim Carburetor & Electric and will feature nationally known brands of automotive original equipment parts such as Auto-Lite, Delco Remy, Holley (Ford carburetor and Ignition), Carter Carburetors, Stromberg Carburtors, Carter Fuel Pumps, Stewart-Warner, and Bendix Products.
The business has been run by J. J. Neuman for the past five years since he came to the Anaheim area from Oregon. He has been active in the Anaheim American Legion and Elks.
Dick Schweitzer, though new in business in Anaheim, has been covering Orange County and portions of Los Angeles County as a District Supervisor for the Electric Equipment Co., the Warehouse Distributor for Southern California of 20 Major Original Equipment lines of automotive parts for over 3½ years and operated his own parts business for 4½ years before that. The Electric Equipment Co. is the world's largest independent distributor of automotive electrical and carburetion parts.
Schweitzer's background in the automotive field primarily concerned with Tune-Up should make the Anaheim Carburetor & Electric one of the finest and best equipped tune-up operations in the county. He has indicated a desire to develop a wholesale business in addition to the retail service operation which has existed under the former owner.

Evans, now minister at large for the denomination, in the largest Presbyterian church in the nation.)
Following the dinner hour on Tuesday, he entire evening will be given over to the report of the committee on Care and Oversight of Candidates, when young men planning to enter the ministry will be presented to the members of presbytery for public recognition. The impact of his co-stardom with Gale Storm in NBC's "My Little Margie" is an awesome thing to Farrrell.
He gleefully tells an anecdote about the time he came out of voluntary retirement to appear opposite Janet Gaynor on a radio version of "Seventh Heaven."
"I was walking down Vine street with Janet's mother during a break in rehearsals when a couple of tourists approached us. 'Can you tell me where to see some stars,' they asked.
"Mrs. Gaynor pulled me aside and said: 'Why don't you tell them who you are?' I was a little reluctant but I asked: 'Say, have you heard of Janet Gaynor? Nothing.' Did you ever bear of "Seventh Heaven?" Still nothing.
No Reaction
"So I told them to drop into the Brown Derby and look around."
The same thing happened during the war when Charlie was a naval officer. When he came on board ship, word got around that he had been a big movie star, but none of the young sailors had ever heard of him.
County Lease in City Cancelled by Officials
Orange County no longer occupies upper floor of Anaheim Masonic Temple for the old Anaheim Township Court, but it still is paying rent at rate of $50 per month, and will do so the rest of this year.
Under agreement in effect today, the lease on the quarters was cancelled before the June 30, 1953, expiration date. It calls for the payment of rental through December.
